Description

Repair and restoration of a mansard metal roof with batten seams of a historic building in Old Montreal. Partnership with l’Atelier de ferblanterie MBR and l’Atelier L’Établi

SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Photo survey and analysis of the existing conditions
  • Permit application and meetings with the Ministry of Culture and Communications and the city
  • Heritage conservation process
  • Construction details
  • Coordination of professionals and other specialized participants
  • Work supervision and site monitoring

SCOPE OF WORK:

  • Dismantling of all metal roofs to the wood decking
  • Repair the damaged plaster and brick walls
  • Corrective work of the wooden structure of the roof
  • Building the wooden cornice and restoring the dormers and woodwork details as they were originally
  • Ventilation and insulation of the roof
  • Covering the new decking with a membrane, metal roofing and flashing
  • Installing snow barriers on the batten seam roofs

MAIN CHALLENGE:

Safeguarding the integrity and restoring the details of a building from the 1830s that has undergone several damaging changes in order to deliver a new roof that is both efficient and respectful of its history
